How Story Telling Helps Us Sabotage Ourselves

My day started with a client who didn't call at the scheduled time. This happens from time-to-time for all of us. In fact, I remember just a few months ago that I didn't remember an appointment I had for myself until on the drive home. I hadn't booked anything to conflict with the appointment, it just totally slipped my mind.

We do this in order to sabotage ourselves. As painful as it was for me this morning, I had to, yet again, do some training on that with my client. I don't always enjoy being tough like this, but people work with me because they want better results, and they'll never get them if they continue doing things the way they do things.

It's important for us to know that EVERYTHING that comes our way is ALL THANKS to ourselves. We are responsible for EVERYTHING in our lives! Everything ... the good, the bad and the ugly. Your story-telling is for your own sake. You make excuses, explain it away, ration-a-lize to the listener ... only in the hopes that the listener will let you down off the hook. Any good listener would understand you're only telling stories ... for your own benefit.

So the next time you find yourself experiencing something that's undesirable to you, simply ask yourself: How is this serving me? It is serving you, and you need to know how. Once you identify that you're very likely to put a system in place to avoid "enjoying" that result again.

Enjoy every result that comes your way. After all, it's from you ... and it's there for a reason. I know this so well, and talk about it with such certainty, because not only have I seen it time and time and time again over the years of my life, but I continue to. As my mentor explained just a couple of weeks ago ... the bigger the challenge the bigger the solution that you're about to truly enjoy!

So, I'm not suggesting you go out looking for really big challenges, but, then ... why wouldn't you?

Enjoy!

Recharging Your Batteries

I love coaching days. Coaching is the "technical" part of the work I do. It's how I serve my community -- people in the world.

In every training session I ever do -- another "technical" part of my business -- I educate participants on
3 UNIQUE ABILITIES.

These are not so much the 3 things we do better than everyone else, but the 3 things we do really, really well, and the "doing" them recharges our batteries.

That means that it's in executing these
3 Unique Abilities that helps us "Love what we do and do what we Love." (Strategy #7)

And, today being one of my coaching days, means that I've been working all day long and feeling more and more energized as the day progressed. How exciting is that?!!!

What are your
3 Unique Abilities? Even if you're an employee, what are the 3 things in life that really charge you?

How much time do you invest in recharging your batteries in each week? Days off don't equal recharged batteries. I was an employee for a long time. I know what weekends are like. They're pretty much the same for all of us ... and they're typically always busy, but not typically full of events to recharge us if we have children at home.

Sleep isn't necessarily the "recharge" either. Yes, we need sleep, but we need fun more than we need sleep. If you've ever heard of advice for dealing with a colicky baby you'll likely remember hearing that as tired as the new Moms are, sleep isn't as powerful for them as is "getting out of the house without the baby."

Thinking about my
3 Unique Abilities as I write this blog, I realize that I need to focus a whole lot more on the 3rd one ... another activity that feeds my business, as well as my soul. I love doing presentations, like at dinner meetings. So that's what we're going to focus a whole lot more energy on, is getting me out there so I can feed my soul even more!

If you belong to an association that has meetings, to which speakers are invited, let us know. I'd love to speak at your Association soon.

Now, back to another coaching session ... to get me charged up even more for the rest of the week!
