THE END RESULT of a 90-day goal

The End Result...

Strategy #2 in my business strategies training programs includes a 90-day goals sheet: 21 goals in 90 days, comprising 3 goals in each of 7 categories.

Domenic's first-ever 90-day goals sheet included:

Start a Family

Simple as that!

10 months and a few days later Joseph presented himself healthily and happily to the Mattina family.

In order for Domenic to become the father he wants to be it took constant focus on:

  • Identifying what the next steps were along the way;
  • Taking those steps consistently & persistently;
  • Changing the way things are done around here, in the business and in his personal habits.

What other types of goals do our mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating, building, masonry, etc. contractor-clients focus on in our

Goals such as:

  • Starting a family;
  • Growing the family;
  • Building a dream retreat location;
  • Moving the business out of the home;
  • Expanding the business space;
  • Creating a niche service;
  • Getting inventions to market;
  • Dramatically increasing profits;
  • Getting the fun back;
  • Dramatically increasing vacation time;
  • Custom-building RETIREMENT so it's ready for you to take it long before you're apt to be ready for it;
  • What would you like? DARE TO DREAM IT and watch it materialize ... if you put it into your 90-day goals and receive PROPER SUPPORT.

An interviewer talked to Prada, Louis Vuitton and Holt Renfrew

The WORST economy ever!!

In a recent coaching session a long-term electrical contracting client said:

"People talk about the economy. An interviewer talked to Prada, Louis Vuitton, Holt Renfrew and all their shops had their best year EVER this year; and 2010 was next best.
I can sit here and mimic their words ... yet they're talking about today being the worst economy ever!"

Can you say these words? That your best 2 years ever were 2011 and 2010?
Would you like 2012 and 2013 to be your best years yet?
Have you ever heard yourself say ...
"We're struggling because
  • of the economy,
  • it's hard to find good people,
  • there just aren't enough hours in the day
  • or anything else, for that matter?

If you are struggling in your business it's for 1 reason and 1 reason only:

Because your business wants to grow and
you are struggling to keep it small.

This client, whose quote from a recent coaching session above, had all of those struggles ... and he became aware ... painfully aware, at times ...
that he was struggling to keep his business small.

Allow your business to grow, under your control, of course, and you will find

  • that there is a very healthy economy out there for your business;
  • good people simply show up at your door - literally!
  • you have more time off than ever before ... and a lot more money to enjoy your time off!

How?

  1. Say YES to the IDEAS and OPPORTUNITIES that come to you.
  2. Take immediate action by taking that first step.
  3. Continue to take consistent & persistent steps forward ... all the way to your RETIREMENT custom-built by you for you!

You, too, will reach FREEDOM ... in however you describe freedom ... much sooner than you can possibly imagine today.

How to get the most out of your next conference or training session

'Tis the Season ... Here's how to get the most out of it!!

I delivered 4 seminars last week at the Woodworking Machinery Supply Expo in Toronto. I also had a booth at their trade show. It was TONS of FUN! This is just one of the many ways in which I execute Strategy #7:

Love what you do. Do what you love.

Following the trade show I was diligent in reconnecting with everyone, as any diligent entrepreneur would be in an effort to serve others.

After all, that's the #1 reason we are in business, right? To serve others.

In fact, one person in one of the seminars responded to that statement with:

Actually, we're in business to make money! ... to which I responded:

If you are only in business to make money, your business will not last long and you will struggle throughout its years. Making money (and HEAPS of it!!) quickly & almost effortlessly is a result of serving others ... in a BIG way.

As I followed up with the hundred+ people with whom I connected at the trade show last week, most of them were able to clearly articulate what the best things were that they got out of the trade show and all of the many seminars.

Unfortunately, fewer than 1% (yes, 1 - without any 0s) of these fine folks had yet to take a step towards implementing those "best" ideas into their businesses.

This takes me back to a newsletter I distributed first in March of 2005 and then again in March of 2008 when the topic became a hot one yet again. So, rather than re-invent the wheel, if you'd like to learn how to receive the biggest ROI (Return On Investment) on your next off-site training or Trade Show then simply click here.

How many times have you gone to a conference or some training and learned a ton of valuable stuff that you just knew would be incredibly useful in your business?

Then what happened when you got back to your routine at work and in life? Mind if I give you a bit of a play-by-play replay?

In response to your spouse asking how the conference was, you were really excited and eager to share the excitement you were feeling. You even had a clear vision of how these valuable nuggets were going to enhance your business, decrease your workload, increase your productivity (or whatever the conference was offering). You heard so many wonderful pieces of advice and case studies that were speaking right to you.

On your way to work the next day you still felt the enthusiasm and you planned how you would implement some of the immediate changes and how you would deal with implementing the others over a longer term.

Then you arrived.

You immediately got bombarded with all those messages -- telephone, e-mail and postal mail (ok, not so many of these :) )-- that had piled up while you were away.

The people in charge were quick to come to you with the problems they had encountered during your absence and then you found yourself putting out fires.

The conference material either didn't even make it out of your briefcase or if it did it just got placed on a corner of your desk. You would get to it later. These issues were far more urgent!

Someone at your workplace, that first day back, asks you how the conference was and you fill them in on how exciting it was and how much valuable information you acquired. Now, after a morning like you've just been through, while you're filling this person in, you no longer feel the enthusiasm you did just a few hours ago.

You briefly consider spending some time on the stack of documentation and notes from the conference. "That's ok," you tell yourself. "I'll get to it tomorrow."

In this case, tomorrow does come and you see the stack of documentation on the corner of your desk. "Yes, I'll get to it, but this task needs to be done first."

Ok, so now we're at the end of the week and I ask you:

What, exactly, have you implemented thus far of those valuable nuggets with which you came back from the conference?

Well, whatever you've put into place by the 5th day is about all that ever will get implemented ... until the next time you go to the same conference, at which time you will find the information less exciting because you will have that haunting feeling of failure with you, knowing that you had every intention in the world to change your business with what you learned last time, but didn't.

So was it that the conference material didn't apply to your business the way you thought it did initially? Not likely.

Was it that the conference material was too difficult to implement? Not likely.

Or was it, maybe, that the conference didn't provide you with clear enough strategies to follow to be able to implement the changes? Not likely.

The fact is that it's very difficult to add something new into an already jam-packed business day or a jam-packed life. It's difficult to add something new into any schedule without making room for it. We need to plan the time to plan in order to make changes. The opportunities to implement change just don't present themselves. Nor do the changes just happen, as you are well aware. It is up to us to make those changes happen.

This means that we need to actually schedule into our agendas the time we are going to allow ourselves to work on planning out the changes. Then we need to schedule into our agendas the time we are going to work at implementing the changes -- little by little. If we don't plan our time to plan, no changes of any value will ever happen.

So when is your next conference scheduled for? I suggest that before you even leave your office to attend the conference you set aside at least one hour twice each week for at least the first three weeks following the conference to allow yourself time to plan the changes and to start implementing them. After all, conferences are quite an investment with the cost, the meals, and the travel and lodging expense.

So, ENJOY your next conference ... and all the benefits resulting from it, such as the time away to rejuvenate yourself and the value it adds to the way you do business, as well!!!

I'm frickin' FED UP!!!

I just heard the horrible news that yet another small business owner has had a heart attack at much too young an age for one to imagine this person having a heart attack.

A few months ago I learned of a horrible situation where a small business owner was struggling for way too long ... and he just got tired of struggling and decided he wasn't going to struggle anymore ... and he ended his life.

Both of these situations came about simply because

SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
STRUGGLE
to stay SMALL

Why are you struggling?

To stay small - that's why. And, yes you'll argue this point when you read it, but that is the ONLY reason we struggle ... in anything, WE ... and OUR BUSINESSES ... are subject to the principles of the Universe. One such principle, or law, is

The Universal Law of Expansion.

Every organism on this planet is subject to every one of the Universal principles or laws ... including The Universal Law of Expansion.

Do you see trees getting all upset about having to grow? Worrying about whether they should push out this leaf for fear it may get blown off? Growing this new branch, for fear it may get knocked off somehow?

Yet we, as small business owners, FEAR every step of growth. Go ahead. Reply to me and tell me you don't. I'll help you unveil the truth of how you do. I still do and I, of all people, know better. And that's precisely why I constantly have the support of others to

HELP ME GET THE HECK OUT OF MY OWN WAY!!!

I want to help you, and your family and all the families in and through your business avoid the horrible situations as I spelled out above ... even the simple situations that we create simply to slow us down -

like seriously damaging a limb of your own body!

I know. I've been there. I didn't let the head-injury-induced coma stop me, but I sure as heck did let it slow me down. Lisa, click here for more, didn't let her breast cancer or her husband's heart attack soon thereafter stop her, either, and, in fact, she claims it woke her up and spurred her on.

Dis-ease is a result of STRUGGLE. We only EVER struggle because we're trying to STOP our own GROWTH.

Benefits to you for attending one of my live events

1. Ability to bring your challenge and your rebuking to the floor and decide for yourself if I would be a good fit to:

- help you to increase your PROFITS,
- get the FUN back into your business and into your life outside the business, and
- build a nice RETIREMENT for yourself - something so very few small business owners end up with (statistics show that 2/3 of small business owners FEAR outliving their retirement investments and, in fact, one of my clients hired me to help him regain his enthusiasm for his business because he feared he and his wife would outlive their money if he retired then. I'm delighted to say that he did retire just 4 years later, with the support to get over his fear and they're both enjoying their retirement years instead of fearing them day-by-day).

2. At least 3 solid steps you can take as soon as you walk out the door of the conference room enabling you to receive a GIGANTIC return on your investment for attending the seminar.

Lady Gaga helping you up business results! What?!?

I just received this newsletter from a coaching colleague of mine and absolutely LOVE it. Lots of valuable insight and, since I don't need to reinvent the wheel, decided to share it with you.

I know I'm going to be closely reviewing these 7 Lessons from Carol Thompson of Fired up and Fabulous drawn from the highly acclaimed, albeit controversial, singer, Lady Gaga, as I prepare my next 90-day goals on Monday.

How about you?

Carol wrote:

As a singer, I am particularly drawn to voices of true artists who have skillfully developed their vocal talents and gifts and who can sing and perform "unplugged", as opposed to many singers today whose voices are "studio-produced". Stefanie Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, is a brilliant, acoustical singer. More interestingly, however, her talents go beyond the singing stage and she has emerged as a truly gifted leader and marketer (emphasis added).

In spite of various opinions of Lady Gaga's music and persona, there is no question that she has managed to position herself as an international icon in just a few short years. With more Twitter followers than anyone on the planet and the world's most successful Facebook page, she has established an extraordinarily successful branding second to none in her industry. How did she do this so quickly? Instead of relying on chance, she used her unique combination of talent, charisma, drive, and business savvy to become one of the most influential leaders of our day. Lady Gaga's rise to fame provides an example for any entrepreneur. From the book, "What You Can Learn from Lady Gaga", by the Editors of New Word City, here are some lessons ala Gaga.

Lesson One: Find a mentor. It was only after Gaga found a mentor that she was able to launch her career. Mentors not only inspire but are links to worlds that you have yet to discover, opening up all kinds of new possibilities. Surround yourself with talent and give credit whenever possible.

Lesson Two: Find your "fans." Knowing how difficult it was for new artists to get air time, Gaga courted the gay community and marketed to their fan base. It was this single act that has created her greatest and most loyal followers and was a tipping point in her career. Define, connect with, and cultivate your niche and core customers.

Lesson Three: Mess with success. Although Gaga was selling out her shows, she was continually revising them until they were up to her standards. Don't be afraid to review your processes and change them to keep them fresh and on track.

Lesson Four: Be open to inspiration. Inspiration keeps you fresh, feeds ideas and energizes you.

Lesson Five: Take risks. Leadership is about being bold and breaking the mold. Take a look at your organization or career and see where it may be stagnating and what actions are necessary to revive it.

Lesson Six: Form an emotional bond with your customers. Lady Gaga has a profound connection with her fans, dubbing them her "little monsters." She has made them a part of her family and invests in them as a part of the way she invests in her own career and success. At her concerts she extols them to believe in themselves and to reach for their goals and dreams.

Lesson Seven: Know what you want. Lady Gaga was possessed with becoming famous and every action supported that goal. It's a simple concept but too often in our careers we slip into a reactive and passive mode. Remind yourself daily of why you are in this career and business and do whatever it takes to reach your goals.

Fear mongering at its finest!

"Experts" are predicting a horrible global economic climate for years to come!

They're saying economic growth is going to be non-existent for years to come! Are you buying into this? It's simply a choice on your part, but let me tell you what happened about 3 years ago in Canada for small businesses.

Travelling northward along the A1 in Eastern Queensland, enjoying the sunshine between banana plantations and cane fields, when I'm not in the rainforest with the wipers on, I'm accompanied by interview after interview on ABC - Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Last night, in the campground south of Innisfail, visiting a castle built by a Spaniard in the 1930s, I was commending ABC for its stories about Australia's history.

Today I've heard nothing but DOOM & GLOOM about the global economic situation ... and how HORRIBLE life's going to be for all ... for years!!!

3 years ago when the U.S. (and the rest of the world, supposedly) was going through a very "cold" economic climate I was coming upon two sorts of small business owners:

1. Those who bought into the fear-mongering, the gloom & doom; and
2. Those who made a decision to step into opportunities created by this fear-mongering, which they chose NOT to buy into.

You were probably in the latter group, or you may have chosen to go the way of several small business owners who, whether or not following my telephone or newsletter advice, "got a job".

One fellow in particular said to me: I just can't put my family through this anymore. It's been 6 years that I've been chasing this dream and one day I think I'm stepping into the success and the next day I see that what the media's saying is true. They've suffered long enough while I've been working so many hard, long hours.

And he got a job. So sad, really, after a 6-year investment. He had options, but he quit. Why? Because the media was all around him! Only because he chose to listen to it, though ... and to believe it.

On the other hand, we have people like Randy & Pearl who, for 2 of those years, held themselves back from taking their business out of their home. Why? Because they watched the news every day - and then the more they believed what they were hearing, the more frequently they watched the news. Pearl said: We became addicted to the fear we were feeling!

So, instead of moving their business out of the house, they moved their TV into the kitchen (figuratively) ... until they finally made a different decision and we started working together.

The 1st thing they did following our VIP Intensive coaching session was go on vacation. 2nd, they hired more support, and their business continued to grow while they went on to take another 5 trips, business fun and fun with friends, over the following 5 months - while they nearly tripled their profits, pretty much in those same 5 months!

And then there's this cabinet manufacturer who heard me say in a seminar nearly 2 years ago now that I never watch, read, nor listen to the news and when I hear discussions of "news stories" around me, I choose not to listen. Here's a tidbit in psychology for you:

What we do not actively reject - we passively accept.

So, this cabinet manufacturer who insists that a business owner MUST follow the news closely, and thereby discounted my "worth" as a business success coach, struggled on by himself ... but only for another 9 months. At that time it was all the Chinese's fault that his business closed and all of his employees were instantly unemployed.

Remember: When we point 1 finger at someone else, there are 3 pointing back at us.

On the other side of the coin is Gary, from southern California, who was very hard hit with the cold economic climate. He chose to be in the 2nd category, and one of those opportunities was investing in himself as an entrepreneur. Just 4 months into a small program with me, Gary announced in the tele-seminar, with everyone listening, that their area was again in an even colder economic climate and he was afraid he was going to have to let go of even more employees - his best!

Following my advice, which I've talked about in print & video in these newsletters numerous times, in the next week Gary had 2 lunches with A customers and received 4 jobs!!! His new challenge was that he needed more manpower! And that was while southern California was in a deep freeze!

And then there's an electrical contractor who has 2 people helping him in the field ... oops! He had 2 people helping him in the field ... and who told me that in order to try to keep his business alive he was going back to work and would do all the "business" work at nights and on weekends, to keep his guys working on the service side of it and his pay cheque as an employee would help keep the business alive.

Well, that plan didn't work. Why not? Because once we start shrinking, we keep on shrinking. It's inevitable. (Similarly, once we start growing, we keep on growing.)

And then there's Wayne who, in that time some 2 years ago, had already been working with me for more than 2 years when he said something like: The way I see it, Lynne, today's economic situation is an opportunity for me.

And take advantage of that opportunity he did! Without discussing this with Wayne - as I write this newsletter in a McDonald's just south of Cairns, Queensland, Australia, taking advantage of a rest-stop and free Wi-Fi - I won't share in which ways, exactly, Wayne's business has flourished ... thanks to the recent economic winter ... but suffice to say that his profits have more than tripled, his FUN has way more than quadrupled, and RETIREMENT ... on his terms? Coming along very nicely! (And he didn't even seize that opportunity with the electrical contractor I mention above, whose business Wayne might've purchased had he been in the same geographical area.)

Which camp are you in? It's simply a choice; and simply requires a DECISION. I was just saying to Nicole, at Paronella Park (with the castle), mere minutes ago:

The strongest characteristic of a successful person is that they make DECISIONS quickly.

Nicole's comment was: My boss says: If you have to think twice about it, don't bother.

I totally agree! Thinking twice is what I call 2nd guessing ... and that takes you from a great idea that speaks to you, to diluting it with all those emotions that get stirred in from all those "but what if"s and now you're unlikely to do whatever the heck it takes consistently & persistently to make it happen.

So, if you're one of those people who truly wants your business to flourish during every economic climate during your ownership of the business, making it saleable so that you have a very handsome retirement, then you'll want to be sure to keep your eyes peeled to these newsletters because I'm about to launch a gift to you:

I met this fellow last week and it brought back memories of a song I used to sing - but unfortunately it did not bring back all of the lyrics and I want to be able to sing the song to my grandbabies when I am showing them this picture.

So, anybody know the words to the song we learned some 45-48 years ago?
